WR Alum Celebrity Pro-Am Dedication to Rubi and Her Hate For CSUs Tourney: Setup

Same game. Better name. Oh yes, we did it again. Last year we had the Final Basketball Battle in the middle of August. It was a 3-on-3 tournament using players that we regularly balled with. The winning team was the Mini Machines-- Ehran Khan, Kevin Han, and Paul Park/John Kim-- and the Khan/Han duo are looking to repeat as champs this season. This edition is even bigger, with 18 players comprising the 6 squads. Teams were set up based on a rankings system and draft lottery. The top 12 players were ranked by the Ranking Committee overseen by yours truly, and players were paired evenly, 1 with 12, 2 with 11, 3 with 10, and so on to ensure optimal fairness. Here are the official 2009 player rankings:
1. JJ Min
2. Kevin Mendoza
3. Jae Han
4. Kevin Han
5. Sachin Shah
6. Nate Ku
7. Josh Kim
8. Jon Choi
9. Ehran Khan
10. John Lee
11. Neil Kwon
12. Richard Yi

Ehran and Kevin Han were moved down a bit in order to keep the pairing together and still make sure the other teams were even. The remaining 6 players were then drafted in a lottery which shook out like this:
1st- Ku/Kim selected Paul Park
2nd- Min/Yi selected Thomas Oh
3rd- Mendoza/Kwon selected Josh Lee
4th- Khan/Han selected Martyn Artizada
5th- Shah/Choi selected Jerome Zarraga
6th- Han/Lee were left with Scott Kwon

I called all the captains to let them know how things shook out. Everything went smoothly until my last call to Jae Han, who informed me Neil had Elite tomorrow and couldn't play. This came after Jon Choi assured me numerous times that all the juniors would be able to play on these days. It's the only reason I moved the tournament back to this week. Thanks Choi. So we were down a player on Mendoza's squad and we could think of no one to fill the void. In utter desperation early this morning I gave Mendoza the okay to call Bishoy Fahmy. And he agreed to play. So the teams were finalized. Anyone who doesn't has to suck it up and play (and you are more than welcome to beat down Jae or Jon Choi, who made this infinitely harder than it should have been). This is going down. Starting tonight 6:15 p.m. at Central Park. First ball in at 6:30. BE THERE!!!!
